The Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) is a leading, high-profile player in the arena of conservation. We identify the key factors threatening biodiversity and develop innovative methodologies and best practice guidelines to reduce these and promote harmonious co-existence and sustainable living for both people and wildlife. We achieve our goals through specialist programmes, and our skilled field staff are deployed regionally and throughout southern Africa.

This position forms part of the EWT’s Communications team and focuses on fulfilling all the EWT’s design requirements internally and externally, including the design work for all digital platforms and tools. The successful applicant will be joining a creative and engaged team to work on exciting and relevant conservation content.

The successful candidate should be an experienced digital and graphic designer with a keen eye for detail and proficiency in the following minimum requirements for this position:
Responsibilities and tasks:

  • Deliver creative and innovative ideas for print, electronic, social media, mailers, and web-based platforms
  • Design and layout reports and other publications
  • Ensure all designs are in line with EWT’s corporate identity and are consistently of a high standard.
  • Assume overall responsibility for the design and layout of all EWT marketing material and publications ensuring that we have updated, meaningful, and attractive materials that promote the EWT.
  • Maintain and regularly update a library of all EWT templates (e.g., PowerPoint presentations, letterheads, brand guidelines etc.) and collateral, accessible to staff.
  • Maintain a library of EWT-related photographs, images, and videos.
  • Research new design concepts, solutions, and trends.
  • Source design material, photographs, and vector images.
  • Provide programmes and departments with design support, where relevant.
  • Together with management assume responsibility for design related elements of the Annual Integrated Report.
  • Manage the branding of EWT materials and products, including all asset and vehicle branding;
  • Manage marketing material
  • Design and manage the implementation of brand campaigns.
  • Management of brand partner relationships (advertising and publishing agencies).
  • Website management:
  • Updating, building and designing of the website and all associated content
  • Ensure adherence to the departmental budget.
  • Technical skills required
  • Working closely with other members of the Communications team to ensure well rounded and cohesive campaigns and products.
  • Aligning corporate identities and brand management
  • Emailers using Mailchimp/Everlytics, or similar
  • Design for Social Media Posts and stories
  • Design for GIFS and animations
  • Design of corporate brochures and presentations
  • Photography and photo editing
  • Web design and UI/UX design principles
  • Typographical and layout skills in respect of magazines and booklets
  • Video Editing
  • Ability to bring briefs and concepts to life and aligned with the EWT’s vision, from conception to delivery
  • Understanding and incorporation of visual hierarchy, layout, typography, and colour

The following are not required but would be advantageous:

  • Understanding of GoogleAnalytics
  • Basic understanding of HTML and CSS (not required but beneficial).
  • Cross-platform campaign development

Qualifications and technical skills required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Graphic Design/ Multimedia Design/ Visual Communications/ Fine Art, or related fields of study

Interpersonal skills:

  • Self-motivated, with strong people skills and an approachable manner
  • Adaptable and flexible application of skills in the working environment
  • Disciplined, innovative, and energetic
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
